Our kid is a beast of a toddler (65 lbs and *tall*) and tough on furniture. We specifically were looking for a coffee table that was affordable, looked decent, and would stand up to a lot of wear and tear, as he broke our last coffee table. This table fits the bill.

It took maybe 10 minutes to put together solo. It's extremely sturdy. The laminate on the shelves hasn't puckered or peeled even though it's been spilled on many times (it's not cheap, papery laminate, fwiw.) It's a good size and a good weight. And there's plenty of clearance on the lower shelf to store bins with blankets, books, etc.

I only put 4 stars by easy to assemble as I'm old and thought I could handle it, but the wood is extremely heavy to me so I had to call my nephew for help. Once it fell on my toe I said that's it - I can't do it - I'm not strong enough any more. However, there are only 4 pieces and 16 screws and 2 allen wrenches and if the wood wasn't so heavy for me to handle, I would have put it together in 10 minutes. Alas, my nephew put it together in 10 minutes. Attractive, heavy/sturdy and am extremely pleased with this. It's big. Normal coffee table size but more sturdy.

I don't like MDF. I know...it's cheaper than real wood but can you resand and stain? Whole different process trying to stain (when you can) mdf. Then when you add veneer is also applied....well. Does not work unless you buy veneer. It looks ok, but it's pretty obvious it's fake wood. No REAL grains in the wood show and you can tell. So much junk furniture out there now days. This seems to be a time when people will not be able (or want to) leave beautiful wood dining tables, coffee tables, etc. to their grandchildren. Fake wood is not the same as real.
