Product Description
The BOSCH JS260 top-handle jig saw provides a sturdy footplate for accuracy in the cut, as well as a 6.0 Amp motor and variable-speed control. The sturdy motor produces up to 3, 100 strokes per minute, with a 3/4 in. Stroke length. The variable-speed dial controls the maximum speed, while the accelerator trigger regulates the operating speed. This Jig saw is engineered with a low-vibration plunging design for cutting accuracy and smooth operation. It has a large heavy-gauge steel footplate. The JS260 multidirectional blade clamp delivers the superior grip of T-Shank blades (but it does not accept U-Shank blades). The tool-less T-Shank blade-change system makes blade insertion and removal quick. The tool has an always-on dust blower for max cut-line visibility and an ambidextrous lock-on button.

I narrowed my choices down to either the Makita or this Bosch after doing a lot of reserach online. I believe both would be great choices. From watching multiple YouTube videos there were proponents for both, but I felt that there was a slightly more positive overall impression of the Bosch, and I like the design of the arm that controls the sliding -- zero clearance behind the unit was important to me.
Upon receiving it, the instructions were superb, and the setup was really easy. I very quickly got comfortable with using it, and its ergonomics are great. I have not made any sliding cuts yet, so I have the head locked in chop-saw configuration. I am happy with the purchase -- the larger size actually means it has a larger (wider) fence on it, which is quite nice because you can do pretty long cuts where you need to clamp a stop block without the need for an auxilliary fence. I cannot recall how far one could go, but I was doing 15" with stop block clamped to the built-in fence, and that was with the fence not even fully extended, and I still had space to go a few inches longer. So I would say it's a flexible and versatile design.
The dust collection (with shop vac connected) was actually much better than I expected it would be. I also tried the dust bag briefly, and it seemed not bad either but I would rather take advantage of a shop vac as much as possible.
All in all, I am excited, and I feel like I purchased a high quality piece of gear.
The saw performance so far is phenomenal. I’ll probably never use the bevel feature since I’ll likely never do molding, but it’s there if I ever do and it bevels both directions. It certainly is handier than digging out my Skilsaw and prepping boards with sawhorses, squares, and guides! Just hook the whole house Vacuflo garage hose to the dust chute, swing the arm out and set, and cut and done… it’s so much better than the Skilsaw route, and projects previously put off now get done right away. I added an Oshlun laser guide to the blade because I’m used to lasers on the Skilsaw and drill press. It may be overkill as the saw is pretty easy to use accurately on its own, but I wasn’t certain of that when ordering the saw. It is helpful lining cuts up initially, but not everyone needs a laser and it’s not that necessary if money is an issue.
The included dust collector nozzle is the only really weak area. I tossed it and made my own deeper one after watching YouTube ideas. Mine barely skims the table and is wider and larger overall. It could use a little refinement to seal some gaps, but still does a wonderful job with our whole house vacuum hooked up via an adapter. Very little bench cleanup is needed compared to the first time I tried the saw with the included dust setup. Inexpensive small rubber mat supplied the rubber, and Gorilla Tape pretty much holds it together.

Mine sits on a stand though in the shop and I do not plan on moving it further than what the wheels will allow. It's a solid saw and make great cuts. Had to adjust the table to the fence, but that took all of about 5 mins. Tweaked the blade orientation, only because I don't trust "factory set" because of the distance these things travel.
Plenty of power for a 4x4 and plenty of reach for a 1x12 at 90 degrees. Smooth operation and dust collection is ok. I found that if I release the "chute" a little and stick a 4" hose next to it, I can collect about 95% of the dust.

A few of my contractor friends have Dewalt saws, my dad has a great Makita saw, I like the Milwaukee brand, but Bosch sold me on one thing: the glide option.
Pros:
- The glide feature saves about 10" of space on your table. I keep this on my workbench and still have plenty of room to work around it.
- I thought about getting the 12" blade, but for the price and the amount I would actually need 12" of clearance, this was an easy choice.
- It is accurate. I don't have the technology or the care to us a digital protractor or calipers to test how true it is. I do know that for my precision needs (initially mitering my baseboards), it was bang on right out of the box.
- It's powerful. I have used it to cut all of my laminate flooring, baseboards, 2x4s, 2x6s, softwood and hardwood, and it powers through everything.
- The handle is set up for right and left-handed use. You might say "I'm right handed, and don't care". But so am I and I find myself switching hands all the time due to the orientation of the wood and my cut line. A very convenient feature.
- The glide feature is amazingly smooth. Actually, the whole thing is very well built. I think this will last me a very long time.
Cons:
- it's heavy. I don't really care, but if you're interested in porting it around, you might wanna stretch first.
- no built-in laser guide. It would be a convenience, but not a necessity. I see you can purchase one as an add on. I'm considering the purchase.
- No smooth-start. Makita has a smooth-start feature that starts the motor a bit slower so there's not so much of a jolt on the equipment. I'm not sure if the smooth-start uses less power, but it sure is cool and seems like it saves some wear-and-tear on the machine (this statement is lacking in scientific evidence, I know).
Not a con, but after a few weeks, I bought a Diablo 60 tooth blade from Home Depot for when I'm working with finer material. It comes with a 36-tooth blade that is great for 2x4s and big cuts, but doesn't do plywood or hardwoods so well. The Diablo was a great purchase and highly recommended to upgrade your blade if you do a lot of finer woodworking.
I bought this saw at the beginning of 2016 to help with our fixer-upper house. It has been one of my most used and most loved power tools so far.
